Music
Welcome to the Music Department at the Prep school
At the Prep school the children expand musical experiences they may already have had externally and link them to musical study within class lessons, individual lessons and performance opportunities.
From singing simple songs, playing simple rhythms and exploring sound in the early years to studying part – singing and developing keyboard playing skills in years 3 – 6 the children quickly understand the idea that music is a wonderful world to inhabit.
We also have a superb peripatetic music tuition team consisting of specialist piano, guitar, violin, voice, flute and clarinet teachers. As well as class lessons and individual tuition, we also run clubs such as percussion club, guitar club and a pop singing club. The school choir known as the Junior Vocal Ensemble is a vibrant and enthusiastic group of approximately 60 children who communicate a genuine love for singing.
The aim of the music department is simple. To teach musical skills and develop knowledge and understanding through exciting and varied musical activities so that children are able to develop both a love for music and the necessary skills to communicate that love. The modern musician is required to be holistic in their understanding; the seeds are planted here.
The school has strong links with members of Ensemble Cymru, who provide regular workshops, concerts and staff development opportunities.
Over recent years, the children have enjoyed participating in the North Wales Choral Festival.
