‘Winter Wonderland’ creative writing competition
Pupils were challenged to write a poem or short story using the title of a Christmas carol as inspiration as part of an interhouse creative writing competition. The winners were announced before Christmas and huge congratulations go to Emily Brown for her poem ‘Night of Silence’ which won the competition.
Emily’s poem along with the Runners Up can be read here: http://prep.rydalpenrhos.com/content/downloads/Creative_writing_-_Winter_Wonderland_1.pdf
Poetry inspired by Senses
Our senses have inspired Mrs Bowman’s Year 3 class to write poetry entitled ‘In my magic box’ during the Autumn 2011 term. Once written, the pupils brought their poetry to life during their ICT class, where they produced a PowerPoint presentation which includes images, music and most importantly a recording of each pupil reading out their poem – thanks to a little help from Mr Williams.
Poet visits Prep School
Poet Kate Williams carried out workshops for pupils in Years 3,4, 5 and 6 where she turned the classroom into an imaginary bonfire, complete with magical and whizzing fireworks. Kate helped pupils write their own poetry based on fireworks, describing their sight and sounds.
Poetry by pupils in Year 4 can be found here: Fireworks_Poetry_-_Year_4.pdf

Here is a winning poem by pupil Rhys Livingston, which was entered for a Christmas poetry competition.
Snow
Snow, cold when it touches your skin
it coats the houses like a layer of custard
Just like it was in Bethlehem,
the lights, red, yellow, green, orange, blue.
The bright star had lit up the sky too.
Have you ever wondered about the very first
Christmas?
Three wise men,
Kings with gifts
celebrations
and surprise.
