Year 1 enjoy a trip to St John’s Church

Pupils in Year 1 visited St John’s Uniting Church in Colwyn Bay recently to learn more about their Religious Studies topic of A Christian Place of Worship.

Reverend Sissons introduced some of the features inside and outside the church, including the stained glass windows which he explained have pictures of scenes from the Bible to help people who couldn’t read a long time ago to learn stories.

The children then went on a treasure hunt around the church to find different features and special objects, such as the font before discussing their findings and learning about their use in the church.

In groups, the pupils then labelled a floor plan of the church using photographs of different features or objects in the church. This led to them discovering that the floor plan of the church is in the shape of a cross to reflect that Jesus died on a cross.
