Chess success continues for Arjan

Rydal Penrhos Prep School is celebrating the success of pupil Arjan Bolina, who was recently crowned Welsh Chess Junior Grand Prix Champion.

Arjan from 4SB took part in the Championships in Cardiff on 29 January and competed in the Group D challenge (for pupils in Year 4 or below).

Played in 4 sections, players were required to qualify for the championships from one of three qualifying events. Arjan was joined by 38 players from different schools across Wales for the Grand Prix.

Five games were played in Group D, with Arjan successfully winning each one to be crowned the Welsh Chess Junior Grand Prix Champion.

Rydal Penrhos School pupil Robert Warrington, 15 from Colwyn Bay also took part in the Grand Prix. Competing in Group A (for Years 10-13), Robert successfully secured 3rd place.

Chess is a hugely popular game at both Rydal Penrhos School and Prep School with pupils from as young as 6 developing their skills by becoming a member of the School’s Chess Club which is run by Mr Camp.
