Medals galore at Urdd Gala
Thirteen pupils from Rydal Penrhos Prep travelled to Cardiff to take part in the Urdd National Swimming Gala on Saturday 28 January. Both Molly Noad and Matthew Harrison had qualified for individual Years 5/6 events, while Teddy Roberts, Finan Close, Finlay Hare and Lily-Rose Leong competed in the Years 3/4 Individual events. All swam extremely well, with all the Years 3/4 swimmers going through the heats and to the finals. Finlay Hare was unlucky to suffer three false starts in his freestyle final and finished 4th in both freestyle and backstroke events.
The other results were:
Silver: Teddy Roberts for the Individual Butterfly (Yr 3/4)
Bronze: Finan Close for the Individual Breastroke (Yr 3/4)
Then it was the turn of the relay teams. As fastest qualifiers in the two boys’ freestyle events, hopes were high for our teams and they did not let us down. Fantastic swimming from all the boys won two golds, with a silver for the Years 3/4 boys medley event to complete the day. The Years 3/4 girls (Lily-Rose Leong, Cerys Cuddihy, Niamh Chamberlain and Bella Rutherford) also got a very good 5th place in their race.

Gold: Boys Yr 3/4 Freestyle Relay (Finan Close, Teddy Roberts, Finlay Hare, George Smith Edwards)
Silver: Boys Yr 3/4 Medley Relay (Finan Close, Teddy Roberts, Finlay Hare, George Smith Edwards)
Gold: Boys Yr 5/6 Freestyle Relay (Tom Bale, Adam Lee-Browne, Will Sissons, Matthew Harrison)
