Christmas service brings term to a close
The Christmas Carol Service held in St John’s Uniting Church was a fantastic finale to the autumn term at the Prep School.
Parents were entertained by “The Sussex Carol” performed by the School’s orchestra before Mrs Alison Hind, Deputy Head of the Prep School welcomed the assembled audience followed by an introduction by School Chaplain, Reverend Nick Sissons.
The worship took many forms including poetry, carols, prayers and readings before ending with an alternative style of nativity.
The first poem was “Night of Silence” a poem written and read by Emily Brown in Year 6, who recently won the Inter-House creative writing competition with this piece. It was a wonderful start for the pupils and was matched by all the individual readings by pupils which were clear and beautifully spoken.
A lovely version of Little Donkey was sung by the Pre–Prep choir and the Junior Vocal Ensemble performed a Prep school favourite “Sheep Sheep”.
The absolute highlight however must have been the folksy sing song led by Reverend Sissons with the story of “The Angry Hotel Man”, who turned out to be the inn keeper in Bethlehem. Much to the amusement of pupils and parents alike the Headmaster, Mr Roger McDuff took the starring role of the Angry Hotel Man, dressed in his pyjamas and holding a teddy bear and with a lovely sing a long song that all could join in with the story unfolded.
The song ended with the nativity scene in front of the audience, before a final carol and blessing which drew the service to a close.
