Year 5 pupils perform at lunchtime concert
Friends and family gathered in the School Hall on Thursday 17 November as Year 5 performed a lunchtime concert.
Joining the pupils was Sioned Roberts from Ensemble Cymru who brought along her clarinet and her bass clarinet for the concert.
Year 5 have been learning about rounds and Christmas songs in their music lessons and performed a short piece on the stage using keyboards, while Mr Williams accompanied them on the piano.
As the pupils returned to their seats, Sioned gave the audience a brief demonstration of the differences between a clarinet and Year 5’s favourite instrument the bass clarinet. Sioned played a few pieces to show the range of the bass clarinet, including the always popular theme from the Pink Panther and Bach’s Sarabande 1st Cello suite arranged for the bass clarinet.
With lots of pupils eager to play for the audience, Sioned handed over the reins to Mr Williams who introduced the solo performers.
Congratulations must go to all of the pupils who performed brilliantly, including:
Eddie Farrell who played ‘The Boys of Wexford’ on the violin
Ioan Peake-Jones who played ‘Yellow Submarine’ on the guitar
Zahra Shamsi who sang ‘Marry You’ by Bruno Mars
Abhishek Bathula who played a piece on the piano
William Stewart who also played a beautiful piece on the piano
Jacob Palmer-Reid who performed his grade 1 piece on the drums
The concert drew to a close with Amy Bale on the double bass and Scarlett Spillane on the cello who played an excerpt from the Sussex Carol, accompanied by Mr Williams on the piano.
The final lunchtime concert of the year takes place on Monday 28 November and will feature pupils from Year 6. The concert begins at 1.10pm in the School Hall and parents and friends are welcome to attend.
