Runners take part in Cross Country competition

The U11 Boys and Girls Cross-Country teams took part in a competition on 10 November. Thank you to Solomon Dickens and Savanna Dickens who have written the following reports.

Under 11 Boy’s Cross-Country Report by Solomon Dickens

On Thursday 10th November, the boys U11 cross-country team travelled to Stonyhurst College in Clitheroe. They competed in the St Mary’s Hall cross-country championship.

It was a very strong competition comprising of 15 schools with about 90 runners starting the race, with a distance of 1½ miles. The course is over difficult terrain and is very tiring.

The boy’s finishing positions were:

Solomon Dickens 11th
Finlay Hare 15th
William Sissons 30th
Ethan Hill 35th
Josh Kellett 46th
Ewan Luke 57th

We all felt very proud at the presentation when we were told the team had finished 3rd overall. This was a good position to finish especially seeing as we finished ahead of strong teams like Stockport Grammar School, Giggleswick School and the Ryleys.

Special mention must go to Finlay, as he only turned nine in September. He will be one to watch in the future.

Thank you to Mr McLeod and Mrs Pyves for taking us to this event, and their encouragement and support.

U11 Girls Cross-Country Report by Savanna Dickens

On Thursday 10th November, the girls U11 cross-country team travelled to Stonyhurst College in Clitheroe. They competed in the St Mary’s Hall cross-country championship.

We were told that this year’s competitors were very strong. There were 15 schools competing, entering at least 6 runners each. That meant there were about 90 girls running the course.

It was a long and tiring race around a golf course with a distance of 1¼ miles, but we all managed to finish in good places.

The girls finishing positions were:

Hannah Bloodworth 13th
Daisy Lee-Browne 17th
Molly Noad 18th
Keira Bonnington 38th
Savanna Dickens 56th
Scarlett Spillane 57th

Congratulations to all the girls, but especially to Hannah, Daisy and Molly for finishing in the top 20. I was very proud to be asked to represent the school in an U11 event. I am very grateful to Mr McLeod and Mrs Pyves for giving me this opportunity, also a big thank you to both of you for taking us all on this long journey. We all had loads of fun!
