No blues, just rhythm at Lunchtime Concert

A wet and windy lunchtime was brightened up by a musical interlude on Tuesday, 11 October as Year 4 pupils performed alongside members of Ensemble Cymru.

Individual piano performances got the concert off to a fantastic start for the jam-packed audience of pupils and Head, Mr McDuff. Well done to Niamh Cook, Kevin Farrell, Ziraili Ulfin, Eve Perring, Tirion Jones and Gabriel Mealor-Pritchard for their excellent recitals.

Next the whole of Year 4 got involved as Mr Williams explained they had been learning about rhythmic patterns. The audience was treated to two performances; the first group demonstrated the ‘tick tock’ rhythm by playing violins, guitars and the piano while Mr Williams played on the double bass; while the second group turned into superheroes, playing the Batman and Robin rhythm on xylophones accompanied by Mr Williams on the piano.

Then it was the turn of Sioned and Dewi from Ensemble Cymru who amazed the audience with their wonderful pieces. Sioned played the clarinet and showed how it could be used to play short and long notes as well as high and low notes to play different kinds of rhythms. Next Dewi startled quite a few of the audience when he played the snare drum rather loudly! Again, Dewi showed how one instrument could produce lots of different sounds and rhythms and brought the concert to a close.

After a lengthy round of applause from the audience, Mr McDuff thanked the pupils for a very impressive lunchtime concert.

The next concert takes place on Monday 28 November for Year 6 pupils. Parents are welcome to attend and the concert begins at 1.10pm in the School Hall.
