Medal success for U11 football team
Solomon Dickens brings us the match report from the 6-a-side football tournament.
On Sunday the 9th of October, the Under 11 football team travelled to Ellesmere College for a 6 a-side football tournament.
I was honoured to be named Captain for the day.
Our group had 7 teams and our first game was against Birchfield. After a good team effort and being in control of the game we got our first goal when Will Sissons passed to Solomon Dickens who scored and we won 1-0.
The second match we had was against Terra Nova. Even though we had most of the possession they managed to score a dubious goal when they kicked the ball out of Ewan Luke’s hands into the goal and to our surprise the referee allowed it. This game we lost 1-0.
Our third match was against Beech hall. The whole team played well with Jack Jones getting an early goal. Then in the second half Solomon scored the second goal after a pass from Josh Kellett. Then to finish the game off, Will and Jack created great passing which led to Jack scoring his second of the match and possibly the goal of the tournament. We won 3-0.
For our fourth match we played the Firs. After being in control of the game we were caught on the break which led to them scoring. We then fought back resulting in Solomon scoring which made it 1-1 in the first half. In the second half Rydal continued to have all the play, then Will scored the second goal. After great defending by Ben Subkovas, Solomon received a pass from Josh to score the third goal. This was a great comeback and Rydal won 3-1.
Rydal’s fifth match was against Shrewsbury High. After a great team effort and good defending from RafeezMortuza, we went on to win this game 1-0 after Jack scored in the second half.
Our sixth and final group game was against Oswestry school. Josh Thomas doing a fantastic job in goal saved us after we had a bad first half resulting in us finishing the first half 1-0 down. After a half-time motivational speech by Mr McLeod we started the second half with great team spirit and we hadn’t gave up yet. We got back into our good form and Solomon scored to finish the game 1-1.
We were now through to the semi-finals and we had to play Prestfelde.
They were a very good team and kept hitting us on the counter attack. Even though we had most of the game and possession, their quick counters left us losing the game 2-0.
So that meant we had to play against Old hall school in the 3rd/4th place play-off.
We went 1 up in the first half when Solomon scored. When we started the second half they scored straight from the break. After this shock the team done well to get over it and went on to win 2-1 when Solomon scored again.
This meant we came third. Unfortunately we didn’t come first, but at least we all had fun and came back with medals.
The man of the tournament was shared between Ewan and Solomon.
I’m very proud of the way the team played and behaved, and in my eyes everybody was man of the tournament.
Thank you Mr McLeod for taking us to this tournament, especially on a Sunday. And thank you once again for making me Captain.
