Pupils are published poets
Pupils from Rydal Penrhos Prep School are in print, thanks to a poetry competition held at the end of last term.
The competition was open to pupils in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 with the winners published in Rydal Penrhos Prep School’s very own poetry book, ‘Once upon a Rhyme’.
Pupils explored the subject of nature in the poetry and the enormous subject area meant a varied collection of poems based on all aspects of nature from snow and rain to dolphins and daffodils.
Year 6 pupils were asked to play around with metaphors, similes, questions, exclamations, newspaper headlines and personification to create their poetry.
The winning poems were selected for their originality and creativity and were published in the book over the summer holidays.
Proud pupils were each given a copy of the book to take home and to cherish and more importantly to show their family and friends. With beautiful images to compliment the descriptive poems, the book will be valuable keepsake for many years to come.
With the goal of having their poem in print, the pupils became engulfed in their challenge to write their nature based poetry, reinforcing the strong literacy programme running throughout the school.
