A stomping good concert

Performing in front of their family and friends, Year 3 pupils took to the School Hall for an informal lunchtime concert on Thursday 15 September, where the theme was animals.

The pupils were joined by Ensemble Cymru member Sioned Roberts who brought along her clarinet to play a few short songs for the audience.

Earlier in the day, Sioned had carried out a 40 minute workshop with the pupils to help them learn more about the clarinet.

Keeping with the theme of animals, Sioned played Peter and the Wolf as an example of how music can be used to portray different animals. Unfortunately, the parents in the audience didn’t identify that Sioned was playing the part of the cat, but the children helped them along by shouting out the answer!

Sioned then demonstrated how music could also reflect different moods and personalities by playing the Princess and the Frog.

After Sioned’s impressive playing, it was then the children’s turn. Accompanied on the piano by Mr Williams and with a little help from Sioned on the clarinet, the children became an elephant who blew his trunk and stomped around while surrounded by little crawling insects with the help of some trumpets, hand drums and xylophones.

The concert was made even more impressive by the fact the pupils had only had one lesson to learn the piece and one rehearsal since the start of the term the week before.

Following a huge round of applause Mr McDuff thanked the children for their hard work and for the fantastic lunchtime concert.

The next concert takes place on Tuesday 11th October for Year 4 pupils. Parents are welcome to attend and the concert begins at 1.10pm in the School Hall.
