Pupils enjoy a right Royal day of fun
The summer term began at the Prep School with two days of fun-filled celebrations and activities for the Royal Wedding.
Children in the Pre-Prep department took part in an extravaganza of cultural delights from ye olde Britain, courtesy of Coastal Hawk Project and the Knight Shop, Conwy, which kindly provided all the props, costumes and scenery for the day. They were greeted at the school entrance by a medieval king and queen, who then led a procession of staff and pupils to the school field where the royal court was held. They were introduced to various historical activities including sword fighting, armoury, falconry, jesting, jousting and even had a turn in the stocks!
The Jester, Harley, performed stunning feats in fire blowing and juggling flames above a rather hesitant knight. The weather was fantastic and all the pupils were able to take part in the day’s activities. Teachers trained for and took part in a sword fight, which really made the pupils and staff giggle.
The children were dubbed by the King and Queen at the end of the day in recognition of their superb efforts in the different arenas.
The following day, pupils in the Prep department gathered in the Lyndon library to witness Head Boy and Head Girl, Morgan and Anna, cut a beautiful wedding cake, made by Mrs Bowman, as well as inspired wedding outfits created by the pupils for Prince William and Catherine Middleton.Over in the Art Studio, Mrs Noad and Miss Philips were helping pupils make Royal Wedding inspired posters using polyprinting and string printing.
Miss Greenwood meanwhile was working with pupils to create lifesize (at least pupil size) collages of William and Kate in their wedding attire, using pictures of the couple as inspiration. They used gold and silver paper, plastic jewels, glitter, paint and coloured tissue paper to design the wedding outfits.
Mrs Bowman had pupils in the new, tranquil reading garden, where they planted an apple sapling. The pupils will soon be planting the first flowers for the little eco garden.
All in all, a wonderful two days. A huge thanks to Mrs Pyves for organising the events and to our wonderful, ethusiastic staff, who had just as much fun as the pupils!
