Year One have “best trip ever!” to the Vet

Last week, Mrs Merrick’s Year One class visited a veterinary practice in Denbigh. The trip was held to complement this term’s topic, Pets, which the children chose themselves.

“This is the best trip ever” and “This is so exciting!” were heard from the pupils, enthralled by this fascinating environment.

“They’ve learnt so much,” said Mrs Merrick, “and really love their topic.”

The pupils discovered a lot from the trip: from the purpose of an anaesthetic, to what special vitamin rabbits need that they don’t get from their diet.

There have also been topic related trips to the zoo, where the pupils met animals which wouldn’t make suitable pets!, and to the pet store, Pets at Home. All this has has really enriched the pupils’ experience and knowledge of domestic animals.

As part of the Pre-Prep ‘Big Book’ scheme, Year One are currently completing their own Big Book, with lots of nice pictures, photographs and writing – all about pets.
