Methodist news: Inauguration of new Circuit
Rydal Penrhos School took part in a celebration on Sunday 5 September at Old Colwyn Methodist Church to mark the inauguration of a new Methodist Circuit – a group comprising local Methodist churches across the North Wales coast.
The new Circuit, bringing together Colwyn Bay & Llandudno and Rhyl & Prestatyn, will now work to promote the mission of the church and take on the responsibility of sharing financial and other material resources. There are now twelve churches that belong to this unit, which covers a geographical area from Conwy in the west to Prestatyn in the East.
Since Rydal Penrhos is a Methodist foundation and based in this locality, it was invited to share in the celebrations, with the school jazz band taking part in the festivities alongside other musicians.
Many of the local Methodist people have close connections with the school going back in some instances many decades, and they were pleased to be able to catch up on what was happening and renew links. The former School Chaplain, the Rev’d Keith Tewksbury, now the minister at Old Colwyn, was instrumental in organising the event, which attracted around 300 people and which culminated in an open-air service, blessed with fine weather. Rydal Penrhos School pupil Hannah Patrick also was awarded with a prize at the event for designing the new logo for the circuit, which reflects the Methodist thinking and the new structure of the church in this area.
