Welcome to this week’s blog. As always it has been an action packed week here at Rydal Penrhos, with plenty for our pupils to enjoy.
This Friday saw our Founders’ Day service, where I led the school in a song, before explaining to pupils the history of Rydal Penrhos’ two founders Thomas Osborn (Rydal Mount) and Frederick Payne (Penrhos College).
I then told the story of Will Broadway, a former pupil who has recently won the James Dyson award for inventing a produce with the potential to save millions of lives.
This week we said farewell to catering supervisor Keith Williams, who left his post after 33 years on Wednesday.
To mark the achievement, pupils presented him with two books of art with good luck messages, together with other gifts, while staff also gave Keith with a number of presents during morning break.
A new Prayer Space has been created at the school, which will give pupils the chance to explore various themes through an interactive display.
Reverend Nick Sissons began the new scheme with Year 5 pupils over a two lesson period, where they produced a Prayer Space entitled Big Burning Questions, and their creation is now on display in the Lyndon Library.
Places are filling up fast on our autumn Baby Brahms events, and anyone wishing to book is urged to contact SWilliams@rydalpenrhos.com.
Our skiing team were in fabulous form this week, taking home a plethora of medals from the North Wales Championships.
Young sensation Xavier Poynton continued his remarkable run of form by claiming the Under 8 title in fine style, while Jasmine Beckett-Donald produced a marvellous effort to win the U10 girls’ category ahead of teammates Fflur Pierce and Ella Northcott, who finished second and third respectively.
The talented Biv Gilmartin led home a 1-2-3 for Rydal Penrhos skiers in the U10 Boys’ event, with Will Rutherford and Ethan Akroyd filling up the podium places.
The exceptional performances kept coming with Telor Jones and Henry Hibbert finishing first and second in the U12 Boys’ category, with the Rydal Penrhos A team of Telor, Henry, Ethan and Will winning the team event.
Further individual honours went to Biv and Jasmine, who won both the overall boys’ and girls’ title to round off a sensational day of skiing for the young side.
This week’s Stars of the Week are Ela, Charlie, William Cheesley, Tilly, Charlotte, Violet, Gabriele, Jake, Llion and Sam – congratulations to all!
