Coming to Early Years (ages 2½ – 4)
We are pleased you have shown an interest in Early Years at Rydal Penrhos Preparatory School and would be delighted to show you around our department, which will enable you to see our facilities in action, and to meet our friendly staff and pupils.
The Early Years Department boasts excellent, self-contained facilities: a large open plan area with units for role play, circle and story time, class activities, language and literacy groups and teacher-led tasks, art and wet activity, reading and computer activities. There is also a secure, fully enclosed and equipped outdoor area.
Joining Pre-Prep (ages 4-7)
Welcome to Pre-Prep. We are delighted that you are considering the school for your child. We invite you to come on a visit, meet our dedicated staff and observe the Pre-Prep department in action.
Pre-Prep introduces subject-specific lessons, building on what was taught in Early Years. We strive to make the transition from Early Years to Reception as smooth as possible, with initiatives that begin in Early Years, such as the teaching of synthetic phonics.
The well equipped Pre-Prep classrooms are used to deliver the core curriculum but pupils also benefit from specialist teaching and the use of the School Hall for Gymnastics, the Music Studio, a fully equipped ICT Suite, a well-stocked Library and beautiful grounds for PE, outdoor learning and play. The children also enjoy weekly swimming lessons in the school’s indoor, heated swimming pool.
Entering the Prep (ages 7-11)
We would like to share with you what we think is so special about Rydal Penrhos Preparatory School. Please call us to book a tour of the school and to meet our welcoming staff. For entry into the Prep, we usually ask for a short academic report from a pupil’s previous school.
Our Prep department introduces specialised learning across all subjects, whilst building on the core areas of literacy and numeracy.
Year 3 is an important transitional year for children as they enter the Prep Department. Children in Year 3 stay with their Form Teacher for literacy and numeracy. They learn to become more independent as they visit a number of subject specialist teachers, gaining access to the superbly equipped Science and DT Laboratories, ICT Suites and the Art Studio.
